Theme: Our Home

  • Here are some suggestions for school work for the next two weeks. Adapt the work and quantity to suit your child. Please date the work each day. Incorporate regular movement breaks while doing work. Please email me on gail.annascaul@gmail.com with any questions or feedback that you need.

  Example of how to structure the day based around Cúla 4 ‘Ar Scoil’
  • 9:30 -10:00   Maths Revise tables –  Answer 3-4 questions
  • 10:00-10:30   Watch Cúla 4 ar Scoil
  • 10:30- 11:00   Gaeilge Read one page -discuss
  • 11:00-11:15    Take a break/activity in the garden/watch The Hub on RTÉ
  • 11:15-11:45    English – Read the story. Answer one activity
  • 11:45-12:00   10@10 or Super Troopers
  • 12:00- 12:15   Spell Well- 2 activities
  • 12:15- 12:45   Pick another subject/ activity    Total  work time =2hr 15 mins

  • You may not be able to achieve this each day so as a general guide for the senior side of the school we would encourage 3x 30 minute slots of work if possible. Adapt the suggested times above to the evening if that suits your home. Remember you are not expected to complete each activity! Work on any of the list of websites provided. Look at some of Liz’s recipes. I would love to see photographs of other activities such as baking, games, dancing, hobbies, books you are reading, how you are helping at home, picnics in the garden etc. Pick a day and call it Fun Day or Fun Friday! I am looking forward to hearing all about it. Enjoy!

  • TG 4 9:30 to 11 o’clock each morning- this is an additional schedule before and after Cúla 4 ar Scoil which will include programmes with educational themes including Bia Linn, Ár Scéal, Is Mise, Is Eolaí mé, ‘Saol faoi Shráid  etc.

  • Maths: 3rd and 4th: Measure the length and width of the following rooms in your house; the kitchen, the living room, your bedroom, the bathroom, the hall. (Use a ruler or a measuring tape. If you don’t have these use your Maths Book. (Your Busy at Maths measures almost 30cm in length.)
  • Extension activity:  Discuss the perimeter of one room. Calculate the area of one room. We call the measure of the surface of an object its area

  • Writing: Write your address and Eircode x 3.
  • You want to sell your house. Draw and write an advertisement for a local auctioneer.

  • Super Troopers- Week 4 and 5 Adapt to suit being at home

  • Continue with the project on a country
  • Draw a map of where you house is situated. Include buildings and features within a 2KM radius of your house. (You can use Google earth to help you.)
 
  1. History /Stair
  • Find out about the history of your house.
  • When was your house built?
  • Who built your house?
  • How long did it take to build your house?
  • Did anyone live in your house before you and your family?
  • Is there any interesting story attached to your house? (You may need to ask your parents here. They may be able to help you.)
7.Science /Eolaíocht Materials:   Discussion
  • What types of materials were used to build your house?
  • What was each material used for?
  • Where can these materials be found or purchased?
  • Name the different types of people that designed and built your house.
  • Which one of these jobs do you think is the most interesting? Why
    8.Art /EalaínDraw a picture of your house- focus on the detail of the door and windows. Colour the picture
  • Art Appreciation: Read and research the architect James Gandon. Write down 4 facts you learned about him.
  9.Religion
  • Grow in Love Easter:
  • The Resurrection of Jesus- Read and discuss pages 61-63
  • Write a prayer- Bless My Home- at least 4 lines. Decorate it.

  1. SPHECount how many portions of fruit and vegetables you manage to eat on a day of your choice.
 
  1. Project Work: Living through history: Keep an account/record of you and your family’s life at the moment. Explain what is going on in the world at the moment in your own words.
  • Think about the following:
  • How are your family doing the grocery shopping?
  • How are your family keeping in contact with other family members?
  • List the different ways you are keeping active.
  • Cut out an article from a paper /download or take a photograph of something for example a beach that is closed or a sign outside a shop etc.
  • Who would you call a hero at the moment?
  • This is a project that you can do during the next couple of weeks. It doesn’t have to be very long. (2-3 pages) You can put it all together in a way that suits you. Maybe record it by taking 10 photographs, compile a scrapbook, put items in a box, draw a picture, diary format etc.  It could be something that you will open in 20 years!  (Click this document which will help with this project.)
